The Canon EOS 80D has all the speed and versatility you need to create expressive high-resolution photos and movies. This agile multimedia machine boasts a 24.2-megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor for stunning clarity and brilliant low-light performance. The camera's Intelligent Viewfinder gives you approximately 100% frame coverage with all your settings available at a glance, so you can keep your eye on your subject at all times. A rotating touchscreen monitor makes it easy to compose from different angles in Live View mode, and allows for intuitive operation - just select the subject you want to focus on with a quick tap. Depress the shutter button halfway, and the camera stays focused until you're ready to take your shot.
A dynamite autofocus system made even better
Canon updated their already well-regarded Dual Pixel CMOS autofocus system for even more speed, accuracy, and tracking capability than before. This system enables fast, smooth autofocus performance in Live View mode and during movie shooting, where quick focus is essential. Movie focus is natural and precise, even when switching between subjects. The 80D's new 45-point autofocus system excels in challenging light and allows four types of AF area selection modes for different situations.
Put your vision in motion with Full HD video recording
If you're new to videography, the EOS 80D is a great camera to learn on, plus it's fun to use. It shoots Full HD (1920 x 1080) 60p movies that can be saved as MP4s for easy sharing. Thanks to the raw imaging power of the camera's sensor and lightning-fast DIGIC 6 processor, you'll get sharp, well-exposed video any time of day. Movie Servo AF tracking complements the autofocus system's speedy performance, helping keep the camera focused during action sequences. Video Snapshot mode lets you shoot two-, four-, or eight-second clips and stitch them together into a single movie. Capture the highlights of your next vacation in a cool, engaging way, or just have fun documenting daily life.
More tools for creative exploration
The 80D has seven different creative filters for Live View shooting. Give your photos a dreamy look with the Soft Focus effect, or make a city street look like a scale model with the Miniature effect. For movies, you get five different creative effects to choose from. You can apply each one to varying degrees and even preview them on the LCD in Live View mode. The filters can also be applied after shooting, so you can experiment with different effects to dial in the look you want.
Create luminous HDR photos and videos
You'll also find some new HDR (high dynamic range) modes on the 80D for capturing natural highlight and shadow details in contrasting light — great for sunset shooting. In HDR Movie mode, the camera captures two HD movie frames at different exposures and combines them together for playback at up to 30 frames per second. For still shooting, you get a choice between five different HDR modes (Natural, Art standard, Art bold, Art vivid, Art embossed) to suit your situation and preference.
Speed up time
Time-Lapse Movie mode lets you take still photos at set intervals and combine them in-camera to create a movie. It's an easy way to capture stunning interpretive video that shows the fleeting nuances of clouds moving across the sky, a flower opening, people getting around on the street, and just about any other changing scene you can think of.
Wi-Fi adds convenience, flexibility, and control
The 80D's built-in Wi-Fi lets you use Canon's free Camera Connect app to transfer images and MP4 movies straight to your compatible phone or tablet. With the app, you can use your device as a wireless remote, and even change settings on the 80D. Full DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) compatibility lets you share easily between the 80D and other DLNA-certified products like HDTVs. NFC touch pairing lets you connect easily to a compatible Android™ device, or to any other compatible device with NFC, like the Canon Connect Station CS100 wireless storage hub.
